Share Your Worker Story

Worker voices to lead the movement! No matter how big or small, we want to hear your story.

Why should I share my story?

If you are a farm worker, construction worker, gig worker, or care worker (residential, live-in home support, night attendant), we want to hear from you!

Your worker story, no matter how big or small, can help build solidarity with other workers who have lived through similar exclusions from basic workers’ rights, and also help educate the general public who believe that everyone has been entitled to certain basic rights. These exclusions include: being denied overtime pay, breaks, minimum wage, termination pay, statutory holiday pay, and rest between shifts.

But the reality of these exclusions can get lost in statistics and legislative jargon. People become motivated to a cause through stories that move them. By sharing your story, you are giving a real human perspective on how “legislative jargon” has a lasting impact on the everyday life of a worker. In creating a common understanding, we can unite and mobilize for concrete change to improve workers’ lives!

How does sharing my story work?

Step 1: Tell us your story

Tell us your story by filling out the form below! Share as much or as little as you are able to.

If you would prefer to share your story verbally, we can arrange for a phone call or Zoom meeting instead. You can indicate this on the form after you answer the preliminary questions so we can know how to contact you. Then, you can submit!

Step 2: Review

WSN will give you a copy of the quote to be used for our website and social media. If the story was told over the phone, we will also give you copies of the transcript and/or Zoom recording. You can fix errors in the article and interview transcript. You can also add information you forgot. And you can remove information that makes you feel uncomfortable. You will have 7 days to make these changes.

Step 3: Publication!

After collecting your story, we will be posting your story on our website and social media posts related to our One Standard, All Workers campaign. Of course, if you do not want to be identified, you can use a pseudonym, initials, or even “anonymous” in the name field.

Language barriers? We know that a significant portion of these sectors are made up of immigrant/migrant workers, and that English may be a barrier. This doesn’t mean that your stories should go untold!

In an effort to minimize these barriers, we’re offering three solutions:

1) Our website can be read in multiple different languages. Just click the top right corner of this page! If you’re not seeing your language, let us know.

2) We invite you to write your story in the form below in your own language, and we will translate it on our end and send to you for review.

3) If sharing over the phone, we have a translator available.
