This elegantly simple apparatus is used to determine the transparency of water in lakes, streams, oceans, and other bodies of water. The turbidity tube is a clear tube with a small Secchi Disc of alternating black and white quadrants. It provides a quick and easy way to probe turbidity, which is a measure of the clarity of the water, which is, in turn, related to the amount of sediments or pollutants in the water.
